The Back Cove 30 is a 34-foot Downeast-style cruiser that was produced by the luxury boat-building firm Back Cove between 2011 and 2018. This pocket cruiser boasts the high-end finish, timeless style and traditional lines that this subsidiary of Sabre Yachts is famed for in addition to a rugged hull, the latest navigational tech and a powerful diesel engine primed for adventure. The perfect runabout for exploring the dramatic Maine coastline, this leisurely vessel also features live-aboard facilities below deck that are ideal for overnighters.
There’s room on the foredeck to cast a line and wait for a bite while surrounded by high stainless steel guardrails, while side-decks lead back to a sedate seating area to aft. This wide and self-draining aft-cockpit has been inspired by the lobster decks of old, but repurposed for sophisticated luxury. Warm cherry surrounds with maple inlay accents and a teak and holly sole give the lower-deck a real heritage feel, while plenty of side windows, a skylight and mood lighting guarantee a bright and breezy atmosphere. There’s an open galley down here with Corian work surfaces, a Norcold refrigerator, a hidden sink and a microwave oven, while a plush V-shaped sofa surrounds a breakfast table which can be lowered into place and covered with a cushion to create a wide double bed for the evening. The head compartment on this level comes with a toilet, a sink, a vanity mirror and a shower nozzle.
There’s a wide range of propulsion options for the Back Cove 30, including a single 320HP Yanmar 8LV diesel that comes fitted as standard. Upgrade to a 370HP Yanmar diesel, a 350HP Cummins QSD motor or a 370HP Volvo Penta D6 engine for a bit of extra bite, with top speeds on the premium options likely to hit the 29 knot mark. Settle in to a smooth and consistent cruising speed of approximately 20 knots to enjoy a 284 nautical mile range, thanks to an efficient, resin-infused deep-V hull and a 160 gallon fuel tank.
