Boaters here can also explore as far south as Barnegat Bay, accessible via the Point Pleasant Canal, or stick closer to home by checking out Osborn Island, a forested sand-bar on the Manasquan that inspired the famous Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson to pen his classic novel Treasure Island.
The boating life here is focused around the Brielle Anchorage, Hoffman’s Marina and the Brielle Yacht Club Marina, a trio of linked facilities that dominate the riverside near the heart of town. Added together the three marinas boast 385-slips for vessels of all sizes, a range of distinct services and plenty of local know-how. Not far from here there is also the Manasquan River Yacht Club, a popular hub for sailing in the area since 1899 that features slips, tennis courts and an outdoor pool. At the western edge of town, meanwhile, and perfect for those looking to explore the upper reaches of the Manasquan River in their day-boat, there is McCarthy’s Marine Service, an 85-slip marina with a bundled service center and a fuel dock.
Just outside the Brielle city limits, and taking up prime real estate on the Glimmer Glass inlet, so-called for its lucid, reflective waters, you will find Robinson’s Marina and Deep Creek Cove, a pair of neighboring marinas with full-service facilities and a combined 135 wet-slips and dry storage space. Another popular option in the vicinity is the 4th Avenue Public Boat Dock in Manasquan, an affordable option boasting a long quay lined with parked boats.
There’s plenty of races and regattas held in and around Brielle year-round, with stand-out events including the ILCA-MYRC Ocean Regatta, an offshore sailing race held approximately one-mile from the coastline, while vintage boat aficionados should book a trip on the River Queen, a heritage-style Mississippi steamboat that offers river tours and on-the-water dining.
