The biggest marina in the area is the Panama City Marina right by Downtown. This newly renovated facility sits next to a redeveloped waterfront district with a plush hotel and restaurant options, and more importantly features full-service facilities for boats in a range of sizes and an impressive 240-slips. If you fancy staying close to the heart of the action then there’s a number of small marinas and private jetties on the Massalina Bayou and Watson Bay, two winding natural inlets lined by waterfront mansions. Also flanking the St Andrews Bay in Panama City itself are the 120-slip Sun Harbor Marina and St. Andrews Marina, currently under renovation after storm damage, which features 104-slips. To connect with the Panama City boating cognoscenti, head to the St Andrews Bay Yacht Club, an exclusive institution dating back to 1933 and organizers of the area’s most iconic races, including the annual Caterwaul Regatta.

Heading south will put you closer to the salty air of the Gulf and the sugar-white beaches lining this part of the Emerald Coast. To the west there is an unbroken 50-mile stretch of beach all the way to Destin that is lined by resorts and hotels for a tourist-friendly experience, while Shell Island to the east is home to a windswept and totally undeveloped 14-mile beach defined by talc-white sands and grass-tufted dunes with a serene and wistful atmosphere. One of the larger facilities down here is the Point South Marina Bay Point, a 127-slip hub close to the St. Andrews pass that leads out into the Gulf. While Panama City Beach itself does not feature any marinas, you will often find that boaters here retreat to this vibrant locale in the evening to sample the many restaurants and bars located here.

Though the recreational boating industry in the Panama City Metropolitan area is focused more on marine services and dock building there are still a few home-grown boat builders based here. Action Craft Boats are well-known for their high-speed center-console fishing craft, while Miller Marine have been building custom boats for the local community since 1985. This area also hosts the Emerald Coast Boat show every spring, a yachting festival with more than 400 boats worth more than $40 million dollars on display.
