Many consider the St. Augustine Municipal Marina to be the finest facility in the area, with 96 wet-slips for vessels up to 200-feet in length and a location right next to the city’s captivating historic Downtown. Offering full-service amenities, a prime Matanzas River location, a destination restaurant on its own floating pier and a for-hire replica Pirate Ship moored here, it’s not hard to see why this is one of the busiest destinations in town. There’s also a slew of marinas on the San Sebastian River that runs along the western edge of the old town, including the busy, mangrove-flanked Oasis Boat Yard, the 100-slip River’s Edge Marina and the charming 45-slip Hidden Harbor.
For rugged offshore yachting and deep-water fishing for marlin your best bet is to head to the Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor, a 260-slip marina in an artificial cove with an enviable position right on the Tolomato River just moments away from the Atlantic. On the atmospheric Salt Run inlet, meanwhile, there is the Coach House Marina, where state-of-the-art facilities and 194 slips await. This charming city is also home to Florida’s oldest yacht institution, the St. Augustine Yacht Club, a well-heeled destination for sophisticated and passionate boaters since 1873. This club helps to organize many regattas and races on the waters here, including the iconic Race Week held annually each March, which features bluewater sailing events, bay-front racing and race socials. And if you find yourself in town during mid-December then make sure to participate in the annual Regatta of Lights boat parade, an illuminated fiesta of boating held at night that has been attracting thousands of visitors for over 30 years.
St. Augustine’s rich boating industry dates back hundreds of years, and still generates over $220 million dollars per year across St. Johns County as a whole, supporting more than 1,000 jobs. The stand-out boat-building brand here has to be Egret Boats, a popular manufacturer of shallow-drafted flats boats for fishing that is located in the city’s western suburbs.
